My daughter Glenna’s therapist, Deb, first told her about Pema Chodron, and I’ve since become a fan and follower of her buddhist writings as well. Glenna read Comfortable With Uncertainty. I found much healing wisdom in When Things Fall Apart. You can read more about her here.

Alexandra Johnson, writes on the art of transforming life into stories through journaling in her book, Leaving A Trace. Johnson teaches memoir writing at Wellesley and Harvard, so she comes with credentials, but she also brings an amazing heart to her writing through snippets of famous writers’ journals and how we all can piece together important life moments through journaling. Well-worth the read if you find writing to be a healing power in your life and recovery.  (Little Brown, 2001).

Reading Anne Lamott always leaves me feeling that it’s okay –  actually, that it’s perfectly wonderful — to be imperfectly human and vulnerable. You’ll see yourself in her stumbles and challenges and aha moments. Read my review here. Until next time, keep your HeartFull of Hope. :)

Why A HeartFull of Hopes

So, I finally begin to write! I start this HeartFull blog with the hope that sharing my story will lead to more recovering hearts full of hope and healing and joyful life spirit. I say MY story but this space is really about all that my heart has learned through my daughter Glenna’s journey to recovery from her PTSD and eating disorder.  Glenna has said that she wouldn’t undo all that she’s lived through if it meant that she had to give up the life lessons and wisdom she’s gained along the path toward recovery. What strength we as parents draw from our children, all in the name of love. Keeping your heart full of love and hope is what will get you through the recovery challenge.  Visit HeartFull often. Let’s share the journey.

MEDA’s web site (and Newton office resources) has been a welcome lifeline for many local eating disorder clients and families. Read my Associated Content article on Eating Disorder Support Online for some helpufl links and tips. As always, believe your strength and keep your Heart Full of hope.
